You've heard it been said many times, BOAT stands for Break Out Another Thousand. Truer words were never spoken. Joel arrived, unexpectedly, at 9am this morning, carrying a shiny rebuilt fuel injector pump. Things were looking up!
This is the shiny rebuilt injector fuel pump for our 25hp 3 cylinder Universal engine. Looks promising me! |
Injector fuel pump is getting installed... I'm silently praying. |
Sadly, Bessie still would turn over, but not start. The injectors were misting. Nuts. Now what? |
So, it's been all morning and past lunchtime, and the $100 bills are just clicking off. The last thing to do was to run a compression test. Joel explained that each cylinder should be between 340-470 compression. The first one had 220, the second one had 0, the third one had 100. This was all very bad news. The last thing to try was to let the cylinders soak in some type of carbon release fluid for the weekend. We'll pray the piston rings will break free in the next few days, and we'll try to start Bessie again on Monday. If THAT doesn't work, we're looking at pulling the entire engine for a total rebuild. And with that last bit of news, I was handed a bill for $1294, to which I reluctantly wrote the check, and we are still dead in the water. Double nuts.
Willis never lost a minute of sleep over all of this activity, moaning, and gnashing of teeth. He slept away the entire day, until six o'clock this evening up on our Vberth. Double dern cat. |
There was nothing left to do but to salvage the afternoon by the pool playing chickenfoot. Mamaw, Paps, Kenny, Fran, Biddi, Donnie and I all joined in on the fun. The winning prize, and traveling trophy, is a rubber chicken that came all the way from Germany. Donnie had bought it for our granddog, Reggie, when we visited this summer, but he wanted nothing to do with it. |
Kenny is into about half what we've paid for the work on Marquesa for his fishing
boat, but both Cap'ns are dead in the water and have resorted to singing sad songs.
Biddi was the winner, winner, chicken dinner, so she is the proud owner of the traveling trophy! A bunch of Catalina's are here at Banana Bay this weekend for a regatta, and Biddi got her winning pic in front of a boat sporting a chicken flag, lol. |
On the plus side, I saw a beautiful hibiscus in bloom today.... |
we had a delicious bbq chicken dinner for dinner with grilled vegetables... |
and the evening sky was absolutely gorgeous tonight. I guess the day was not a total loss. |
Well that was a beautiful evening sky, and the singing was great and made me laugh. I guess you can look at the bright side, that you still have your health, and good friends to play chicken foot with.
