sunday projects

We got up this morning and joined Kenny and Fran for a delicious breakfast at the American Legion, compliments of our border patrol friend, Keith.  You can tell by the look on Kenny's face that any day that begins with three loose eggs and a ribeye steak is going to be a red letter day!
Sadly, for us, it was not a red letter day.  We got back from breakfast and had planned on going to church, until we discovered that our dinghy was sinking.  It had sprung a leak in the rubber tubing, and had gotten behind the stern of Marquesa. So every time the bilge pump came on, it was dumping water into the dinghy.  Thankfully, Donnie got the dinghy motor tied to a cleat on the dock so it wouldn't get ruined.  He pulled the boat, and  quickly discovered the leak.  It seemed to have rubbed a hole in the front end where it was banging against the dock repeatedly in the big blow we had the other night.  He set about patching it, then patching the patch.  After that, he tackled some other projects, starting with sanding Danny's fiberglass patch that he did for him on the starboard stern of Biddi and the Beast.
After he finished with Danny, he borrowed an electric saw from Dave and cut the hole for our new cockpit speakers.  The previous hole was fine on the length, but he had to widen the height to make the new speakers fit.  They are just setting in place at the moment, he still has to wire them in- a project for another day.
After that, Cap'n took a quick break to run to town and buy fishing line for our two rods.  He had to take them to be spooled on to his reels.  One rod is for yellowtail fishing, and the other is for trolling.  We should be all set for tomorrow.  Kenny's boat is now up and running and he's taking us and Mamaw fishing in the morning.  AIS is 9:00am :)
While Cap'n was busy with his projects, I cleaned up the boat down below, then started to tackle the teaks on deck.  They were black with mold and mildew and disgusting.  I hit them with bleach water, a wire brush, then sandpaper to smooth them down.  I only got the starboard side done, though I still have to oil them once they dry completely.  At least they look the right color now!  What a mess...I will tackle the port side on another day.  My dance card is full for tomorrow!
The patch seemed to hold, so Cap'n pumped up the dinghy, put the motor on, and got is all relaunched.  We then enjoyed the football games first at the tiki bar, then on Biddi and the Beast.
After the AFC game, I made a pot of chili for the crock pot for tomorrow night's dinner.  I don't know how long we'll be out fishing.  If we're catching, we'll save them for a big fish fry for another day.  As I was cleaning up the galley, I heard a disgusted "Really???" from Cap'n out on the dock....the dinghy was sinking again- the patch did not hold.  I then went to the head to retrieve something from underneath the sink, and it is leaking, too.  REALLY????  Can we catch a break anywhere?!  That's just something else to add to the list.  The list that seems to be growing rather than subsiding.  They say that owning a boat is working on your boat in exotic places.  Truer words were never spoken.  And how was your restful Sunday?!  G'nite y'all!
