There's a learning curve to river currents...

On the approach to Ladies Island Swing Bridge
So the last blog entry closed with bragging on my husband's easy touch at the wheel...Don't EVER brag. It will come back to bite you- lesson learned. Got it.  Leaving Lady Island Marina, let's just say, not so very easy with the river current hastily pulling us sideways.  I'll just leave it at that.  Needless to say, in all the havoc, we missed the 10:30am opening of the Ladies Island Swing Bridge, so we did lazy circles in the river waiting for the 11:00 opening.  I called the bridge master (is that what he's called?!) all by my own big self.  Doing circles in the river, waiting to time the bridge opening just right, reminded me of one of the starts to a race at Prairie Creek Reservoir.

Passing through, way cool!

As you can see from the photos, it was a cold, foggy, morning in Beaufort, SC.  In fact, the fog only worsened, as the day wore on, and I was none too pleased about the conditions.

Past Parris Island, home of the boot training camp for the Marines, hoo-rah!

Crossing Port Royal Sound was a little alarming, especially when a boat passed within a 100 yards of us. It appeared out of the fog out of nowhere- yikes! No running lights either, and it was a working boat- grrrr.

Thank God for compass readings and a GPS, because sailing through the Sound was like going through pea soup- not fun at all.  Gladly, we found our opening to the Chechessee River, that lead us to Hilton Head.

We passed some beautiful homes coming in to Hilton Head.

It was a lousy day for golf, (not that we're golfers
anyhow :), so we topped off our tanks and jerry
jugs just to say we'd been to Hilton Head, and
decided to get on down the waterway.

Realizing we weren't going to make Savannah before dusk, we decided to
anchor out on Wright River, just before the cut leading to the Savannah River.
Not a soul in sight all night, and we were blessed with this gorgeous sunset!
