Blow out

After breakfast today, we decided to go for a sail.  Since it was still kicked up on the Atlantic side, we decided to stay in the Gulf.  It was choppy, but that's about all.  The trade off, of course, is that we often were "looking for water" as the depth meter read in the 3's several times. (Remember, Marquesa draws 4.4, so anything less than that, you hold your breath!)  Donnie had charted a course for West Bahia Honda Key, about 12 miles out, or a two hour sail.
Look who's got her "bow babe" on... Wow!
(Note she is wearing my wristbands to prevent seasickness :)
Willis T got his game face on, too.  He was just happy to be
topside again. He only sees the light of day if we are off the dock.
His eyes take after his momma :)
So here was our destination- that we never quite got to.  The depths were
crazy shallow that prevented us from getting to the lee shore.  We tried to
set the hook three times, on a grassy bottom in less than five feet of water.
Screw it; we gave up.  No sooner did we decide to turn around and sail back,
and our mainsail blew out, AGAIN!  So much for that $900 repair job a while back.
Marquesa seemed to be telling us that its time to go back to Indiana :(
Me and my girlie!
Emily made a valiant effort to read her American Civ while sailing, lol.
Tied back up to the dock by 3:00pm, we all opted for the pool instead.
I will say that Emily did get her Counseling Psyc homework done.
(though some guy from the tiki bar attempted to hit on her)
We had nachos and hot wings poolside for dinner, then watched the sun go
down from our pointe.  It looked like it could be a green flash sort of night.
The sky was clear, the water was calm, and the sun
was still white/yellow, and not bright orange.
Though beautiful, there was no green flash.  Maybe it's a March thing?
Once it was dark, we set out on a quest.  First stop was
for some chocolate covered key lime pie frozen on
a stick...well, Emily got raspberry instead.
Next stop was at Daffy Doug's Discount Dollar Store
where they have stupid good prices, don't ya' know?!
We had to pick up some treasures.
Our first attempt at showing Emily how to hunt for geocaches, and we
struck out.  We need to try again for this one in the daylight.  Emily
decided to stop for a rest while Donnie was still aimlessly wandering.
She found the "tough nut to crack"!
Then she found the one by Sombrero Beach!  Her treasure was
a Canadian maple leaf keychain :)
The next one had her hunting where the wild things are...scary stuff!
She searched down in the itchy foliage...
AND FOUND IT!!!
Every girl needs a miniature toy snake :)

Next stop was Key Colony Beach.  Donnie was convinced it was in
the porta-pot, but Emily was back in the foliage again.

Em's got her game face on...the foliage it was...this girl is GOOD!
This time she got some Mardi Gras beads.

Emily dominates at geocaching! She found it again!!
She got a Florida keychain to add to her treasures.
This one was hidden in a residential neighborhood.
She was richly rewarded...she got a light up pink
flamingo pen.  A Lucky  pen!  Very Keys-ie :)
She left a feminine hygiene product in its place, lol
Next stop, near the airport, and she scored again...I can't even
remember what her bounty was this time around.  She cleaned up!
After that one, we went to the Seven Mile Bridge.  We walked a mile and a half only to discover that the geocache had been muggled.  It was well after midnight by this time, and we were all itchy from wandering around rocks, trees, grass, palms, ants, spiders, and all sorts of other things that go bump in the night.  We got back to Banana Bay, took our showers and called it a night.  Easter Sunday service is tomorrow, but I think it's safe to say that Emily had her egg hunt tonight :)))

  1. Sorry to hear about the blow out. It looks like y'all still had a lot of fun. Maybe take the sail up north with you to get it fixed at a much better price. How about a new used sail?

  2. Head on back to Indiana, there is no wind here to blow out sails... just rain.... When you head home PLEASE, PLEASE pack up some of that Florida sun and bring home with you. We don't remember what sun looks like anymore.
