Armed
with our trusty maps, we set out in search of four different snorkeling places
late this morning. The first stop was
another plane wreck back in the 80’s (more drug running). The reef on it was spectacular, and a grand
daddy lobster (HUGE) was in the tail of the plane. This was our second stop called, “The Sea
Aquarium”. Was it ever, a beautiful reef
dive in a bowl, just loaded with tropicals. |
|
The
third stop was Rocky Dundees which had a cave of stalagmites and
stalagtites
inside of it. You had to hit this one
right at slack tide. |
|
…and
the fourth stop we never made it to.
First of all, because we’re morons and misread the map. Second of all, because Matt and Karie have a
go fast dinghy whereas we only travel slightly faster than the speed of
smell…so we lost sight of them. By the
time we made it home from the third dive, they were already back at their boat
relaxing after their fourth dive! So we
did a few boat projects before the planned cocktail party. Donnie put up the radar reflector again, in
anticipation of our crossing the tongue of the ocean. I did some ‘gardening’ with my herbs. ..and
we continued to ponder over Windy, who mysteriously quit working three days
ago. Last night, Donnie had the sea
berth unloaded of all of our crap to chase down the wiring, and everything
seemed in order. She’s still stuck. |
The hosts
of this anchorage invited everyone to bring a snack and dink over to the
sandbar for cocktails at 5:30pm. There’s
two Island Packets at this mooring (the boat I covet- and will buy one day with
my Survivor winnings!) and I was wanting to meet their owners J Donnie is
talking to Bill, the owner of Maragarita- a 46’ Center cockpit Island Packet.
|
And
this is the owner of Southern Cross, the other Island Packet we have repeatedly
run into. The mom is boat schooling the
boys, Zachary and Evan. I really enjoyed
talking with Melanie, their mom. Next
time I get and internet connection, I want to check out their blog. It was Zachary who told me that I “had to dive
the Sea Aquarium, because it was the best place EVER”. |
|
The sun was setting as we left the party to head for 'home'.
We couldn’t see it set on the horizon, as our mooring ball
is behind this island, but it was beautiful all the same. Tomorrow we will have a full day’s sail north
to Highbourne Cay… time to get some shut eye.
G’nite y’all!
